In Asia, Food is so much more different to western and middle eastern food! Each culture is unique and expresses it through their food- The way it's cooked, the way it's consumed and the flavor differ in each country.. but is it healthier than regular western fast food?
YES! Let's find out why!
1) Eating with CHOPSTICKS!
While spoons and forks help you grasp a good amount of food to eat and fill your hunger, some Asian countries use chopsticks..they make you eat much lesser than spoons as they help you take much smaller bites therefore eating slowly and satisfying your cravings even better!
The way food is served is also important, eating several dishes like soups, rice, few meat and several vegetable dishes in small bowls is better than having one big plate!
2) Vegetables & Cooking techniques are much healthier!
Asia eats ALOT of vegetables.. many Asian diets consist of only 20% of nutrients coming from meat! Vegetables are great sources of dietary fiber, potassium, vitamin A and vitamin C.
What makes it even more special and healthier is their low-fat cooking techniques. We all know how full of nutrients vegetables are and steaming is one of the best techniques that helps keeping the nutrients and most importantly allows the fat and calories in your diet to stay low. Stir frying is also another technique used with little oil, besides tempura batters- Japan is one of the healthiest Asian countries when it comes to eating healthy!
(PS: India is not included in this because MAN!..They LOVE deep fried food!)
3) Having more seafood in their diet than red meat.
Most Asian countries eat more fish than red meat in their meals, research says fish is eaten daily! It's a good source of healthy oils and lean protein , no matter what cooking technique you choose- fish over other types of meat for your health! Japan eats fresh raw fish and as weird as it sounds, the Japanese cuisine is loved by people all over the world! it's tasty and very healthy!
4) Spices vs. yogurt.
Indian food is all about the spices!
Spices are not just to add healthy flavor to your food, but they have various health benefits. Spices are antiviral, antibacterial, high in trace minerals & B-vitamins. True sea salt contains 93 trace minerals! Majority of herbs and spices contain more disease-fighting antioxidants than fruits and vegetables.
Yogurt is full of good bacteria and calcium that is well needed in a good healthy diet and prevents gaining body fat as well as developing insulin resistance.
5) TEA is a habit that you should make!
In Asia tea is a very important drink..more than coffee!
India loves its spices so much and it drinks it with tea "Chaii tea" and it helps boost their blood flow, reduce blood sugar levels, improves digestion, and many more health benefits!
Japan loves their Matcha tea (green tea) daily and it helps protect the body. According to the University of California, San Francisco green tea have proven to cancer prevention as it contains four primary polyphenols -- epicathechin, epicathechin gallate, epigallocathechin and epigallocathechin gallate -- which are chemicals found in plants that are extremely powerful antioxidants!
Food is something we all love but we should consider our portions, and other habits that could make it healthier for us!
“hara hachi bu”, which means eat until you are 80% full is a
